Choosing A Perfect Cocktail Party Dress

Selecting the perfect dress for a special occasion isn’t an easy task. Getting the right fit, correct length, perfect colors and matching accessories all influence a woman’s decision-making process.
Before going out to purchase a cocktail dress, consider these factors to make sure you select the perfect outfit:

How much are you willing to spend

Take a look at your wallet and be honest with yourself: how much can you spend? When you’ve answered that question, it’s time to go shopping. If you think you’ll wear the dress you’re considering buying on multiple occasions, it might be worth splurging a little and spending more. If you’re buying a dress you may only wear once, don’t spending as much.

Know your body type

A flattering cocktail dress allows the wearer to relax and let her personality shine through at any social event or party. To get the perfect dress, you need to know your body type. Here’s a quick guide to consider:

  • HOURGLASS: A body with equal hips and shoulders. Your dress should hug those curves. Pencil skirts and strapless tops work well.
  • APPLE: Women with ample busts need a dress that streamlines their figure. A full skirt or wrap dress will help balance the look. A plunging neckline is an effective feature.
  • RECTANGLE: If your figure lacks curves, you still can have fun creating visual contact by selecting a dress with pleats or accentuating the waistline with embellishments.
  • PLUS SIZE: Showing off your cleavage and legs is easier as more fashion lines create plus-size products. Wide straps and sleeves help make a larger dress more comfortable. Selecting and wearing a proper bra will add to the wearer’s comfort level.
  • PEAR-SHAPED: Select a style that shows off your slimmer shoulders, face and chest. A loose skirt and deep neckline will help ladies with a bigger lower body than upper body.
  • INVERTED TRIANGLE: This body style is defined by slim hips and a medium-to-large bust. Any dress should emphasize the waist. Styles with spaghetti straps and capped sleeves will help draw attention to the waist.

Know your skin tone

Look at your face, hair, wrist and eyes. The dress you wear should suit your skin tone. Keep that in mind when selecting a dress. When the dress fits your skin tone, it will enhance your personality as well.

Quality of the fabric

If your dress is made with quality fabrics, it will last longer and then your dress might be worthy with a long lasting finishing that will never fade. Therefore, if you buy or strict your dress from a professional service provider, you don’t have to worry about its fabric and material. You can easily handle it with ease.

Here are some do’s and don’ts when you take your new dress out on the town:

  • Wear heels. Heels make you look taller and lengthen your figure. Open and closed toe styles are acceptable.
  • Carry a clutch, not an oversize bag. And limit accessories to a single statement piece.
  • Formal occasions, including black-tie events, call for a longer dress. Informal events, such as family parties and after-work mixers, are territory for shorter dresses.
  • Wear proper undergarments. Visible panty lines and bra straps are unacceptable.
  • Colors are important. Black is the No. 1 option. But red, white and gold are all OK.
